Workshop “The Great Women Artists” was held during the Christmas Art Bazaar Festival 2017, and within the Pop-Up activities of the Benčić Youth Council project.
The workshop was organized to provide additional content to visitors to the festival. The aim of the workshop was to look at the artist in a different way and to get acquainted with the women artists who achieved great success with their work. For this we also used the exhibition that was set up in the Kortil Gallery, under the name “Zarolan životom” by the well-known Croatian artist Nives Kavurić Kurtović.
Through various interactive games, we talked about women who achieved great success in various fields in science and culture, for which we were using the book “Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls”, an international bestseller by Elena Favilli and Francesca Cavallo.
After that, we focused on Nives Kavurić Kurtović and Frida Khalo, two recognized and famous artists. The aim was to familiarize children with their life and work and to familiarize them with the way of reading and looking at the work of art. After good observation, it was important for us all to recognize the works of these artists according to their important characteristics.
After the theoretical part, we turned to practice. Everyone chose one of the artists that we were learning about that day to model after and created their own work of art!
